The
Brazilian law authorizes the concession of the following
kinds of visa:
Transit Visa This kind of visa
is granted to foreigners in international trips
that need to pass throught the Brazilian territory
and stay, for short term, in order to get in their
destination country.
Tourist Visa This visa is granted
by the Brazilian consulates for trips that have
a leisure or visitation character, and do not have
an immigratory or labor activities intention.
Temporary Visa It is the authorization
granted from Ministry of Foreign Relations (MRE),
through the Brazilian consulates in other countries,
to foreigners that intend to come to Brazil:
I - in a cultural or studies trip;
II - in a business trip;
III - in an artistic or sportive mission;
IV - in a studies mission;
V - being a scientist, professor, technician or
professional in any other category, under contract
with the Brazilian Government;
VI - being a international correspondent journalist
from newspapers, magazines, radios, television or
foreign news agencies;
VII - being a religious minister or being in a religious
consecrated order
The temporary visa concession, in itens III and
V, demand also an Authorization of Work.
Authorization
to Work
Authorization to work for foreigners is a administrative
document from Ministry of Labor and Employment
(MTE), demanded by the Brazilian consular authorities,
according to the law, that makes possible the
visa concession (temporary or permanent) to
foreigners who desire or have to remain in Brazil
in a working condition.
Permanent Visa It is the authorization
granted by Ministry of Foreign Relations (MRE)
to foreigners that intend to establish themselves
definitely in Brazil.
The concession of this kind of visa also requires
previous Authorization to Work, granted by Ministry
of Labor and Employment (MTE) for high level researchers
or specialists, investors, managers or directors
in civil commercial companies. Although this kind
of visa is called permanent, it can be granted
with a validation date, once, according to the
Foreigners Statute (Lei 6815/80), it must be directly
related to the exercise of a labor during a period
of time up to five years.
Courtesy Visa It is an exclusive
visa from Ministry of Foreign Relations (its extension
can only be granted by this Ministry).
Diplomatic Visa Visa granted to
foreign authorities and international organisms
employees that have diplomatic status and are
travelling to Brazil in official mission. This
visa can be extensive to the spouse or the descendants
of the couple.
Official Visa Visa granted to
authorities and international organisms employees
that are in Brazil in official mission in a transitory
or permanent character. This visa can be extensive
to the spouse or the descendants of the couple.
Receiving
units
It's the administrative units of Ministry of
Labor and Employment (MTE), Delegacias Regionais,
Sub-delegacias and Protocolo-Geral do Gabinete
do Ministro. They have the ability to give the
documentation on the Request of Authorization
to Work for Foreigners.
Relations of the Work Secretariat -
Imigration Coordination It is the administrative
unit from Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE)
that has the ability to decide on Requests of
Authorization to Work for Foreigners.
